New Zealand declare, set Sri Lanka 363 ? Cricket News Roundup ? Part 2 ? November 28, 2012
New Zealand have set Sri Lanka a target of 363 after declaring their second innings on 194 for 9, with skipper Ross Taylor leading the way with another half-century.
The Lankans began the day on 225 for 6 but managed to add just 19 more runs. The major damage was done by Trent Boult, who dismissed the overnight pairing of Thilan Samaraweera and Suraj Randiv in back to back overs before taking the final wicket of Rangana Herath. Tim Southee also got a scalp to finish with a five-wicket haul.
New Zealand were restricted to 75 for 5 before Todd Astle and Taylor rescued the innings with a 97-run stand for the sixth-wicket. Astle?s wicket sparked a late order collapse before the Kiwis eventually decided to declare. ?
Australian pacer, Peter Siddle, is confident of overcoming fatigue and feature in the deciding Test against South Africa, which starts on Friday at Perth.
Following an injury to fellow seamer James Pattinson, Siddle was forced to share the bulk of the bowling workload and sent more than 60 overs during the drawn Test at Adelaide. He is now a doubt for the final clash with the selectors already bringing in reinforcements in the shape of Mitchell Johnson, John Hastings and Josh Hazlewood.
Siddle, who will not bowl before the start of the Test, said that he can still make it to the playing XI. "I'm feeling good now, I've recovered well ... but if I'm struggling through tomorrow or if I don't feel 100 percent I've got to talk to the captain, the selectors and work out what's best."
Melbourne Renegades have scooped up South African batsman, Faf Du Plessis, for their Big Bash season?s opener against rivals Melbourne Stars.
Du Plessis, who scored a heroic ton against Australia at Adelaide, will take the place of West Indian Marlon Samuels, who is unavailable for the derby clash due to his commitments with the national side.
He becomes the second current Proteas player to a pen a short term deal after Dale Steyn opted to join Brisbane Heat for their opening clash against Sydney Thunder.
"Faf's one of the best fielders in world cricket and an explosive T20 batsman," Renegades coach, Simon Helmot said. "His batting and fielding are what we needed and he can bowl some handy leg-spin as well."
