The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins Book Review

Many people from all over the world are following the sequel of The Hunger Games saga. As reported earlier, casts of the blockbuster movie were busy preparing for the filming of Catching Fire, the second part of The Hunger Games novel.

But before we?ll talk about Catching Fire, let me share with you some wonderful tidbits of the first part of the Hunger Games novel. We love how Jennifer Lawrence played her part as Katniss Everdeen in the movie. But there are more interesting parts of the novel that I?d like to point out.

Katniss?s friendly relationship with Cinna, her stylist, is very interesting to talk about. He transformed her as a beautiful and young tribute for the interviews prior to the actual games. There?s something about Cinna that made the protagonist so at ease with her unfortunate role as a tribute. He has given her an opportunity to show off strength, hope and an edge against the other tributes just by giving her stunning style make-over. Because of Cinna?s work, Katniss was dubbed as the ?girl on fire? and made her so popular.

Now, let?s talk about Haymitch Abernathy, the mentor of District 12?s tributes ? Katniss and Peeta. The author has introduced his character well into the scene. After reading the first book, I realized that there are reasons that their mentor became so alcoholic and never even thought of getting married. I wonder how he managed a lonely life as a victor. But the sure thing is that he was able to spot the strength of his latest tributes that he is forced to mentor in the games.

The book was written in a simple way. It is easy to read and understand. Even though Suzanne Collins introduced a lot of characters, it was easy to relate one character to another. All in all, the first book is just an introductory part of a more scary and unfortunate life of a victor in The Hunger Games. The oppression didn?t end after Katniss tricked the Capitol with the berries or that ?nightlock? thing.
