Boise State University Bronco Blue Turf Exported to Japan

The turf is familiar but the surroundings are definitely not the Boise Foothills.

Hosei University unveiled its new blue football field in Kawasaki, Japan, near Tokyo Sunday, with the full blessing of Boise State. The Asian version of Big Blue is the first international licensing of the playing surface as a Boise State trademark.

?The relationship continues to blossom in several ways as the two universities have developed an international friendship and gained so much academically, athletically and culturally," said Boise State President Dr. Bob Kustra.

The universities have exchanged 65 students since 2006, including 21 Japanese sports medicine and health studies majors who spent a semester at Boise State in the fall of 2011.

Hosei University shares Boise State's blue and orange school colors, but Hosei's sports nickname is the Tomahawks. Hosei has approximately 41,000 students on three campuses across Tokyo and was established in 1880, one of the island nation's oldest universities.
